Ever found yourself at a crossroads in life? I certainly did—right after being laid off from a company I had called home for 18 years. My choices felt like the grind or… I don’t know.
Instead, I chose chocolate.

It happened on an ordinary Thursday in July 2024. A friend casually asked how long my EI would last. I answered with confidence—“several months”—only to check and realize it would end that Saturday. Suddenly, the ground beneath me shifted.

Over the next few days, I sifted through my options as a soon-to-be entrepreneur, refusing to return to the same roads I had always walked. And then, on Monday evening, something clicked. I walked into the house and said to my husband, “I think I’m going to make chili chocolate.”
He looked up: “That’s already been done. Try chai masala.”

His words sent me inward—into memory, culture, scent, and colour. Chai masala, cardamom, saffron… flavours that shaped my childhood, brought comfort, and held stories I didn’t even realize were still with me. Pairing them with chocolate, a lifelong love of mine, felt like more than an idea. It felt like a calling.

In that moment, I realized I wasn’t choosing between two roads. I was remembering that I could soar.
